Last week I went away for a couple of days to the seaside. Amongst the many towns by the sea that I visited I managed to find a Zoltar machine in Scarborough.
Apparently these machines are all over the place but this was the very first time I’d ever seen one with my own eyes.
I adore the film Big, the Zoltar machine is what grants Tom Hanks his wish to be an adult.
Growing up I must have seen this film countless times, it’s one of those movies that just never grows old. I’m even humming the theme now in my head as I type and it’s a dream of mine to one day jump around on a giant piano.
The machine I used wasn’t as cool as the one in Big (there was no device to try and get the coin into his mouth) but it made me feel incredibly nostalgic and childlike. Passers-by must have thought I’d stumbled upon the holy grail due to my reaction. To be honest I never even knew Zoltar machines existed outside the film Big.
I didn’t make a wish, I was so overcome that I totally forgot. I went to the seaside to escape the nerves of possible redundancy at work and when I returned not only did I keep my job but got moved to the team I was hoping for. Maybe Zoltar read my mind as my wish was definitely granted.
